From the Michigan World Language Association:

It is our pleasure to inform you that the President of the Michigan World Language Association (MIWLA), Sara Blossom Bostwick, has announced that Susan Formento Buffa, L'Anse Creuse Schools, will receive the 2013 World Barbara Ort-Smith Award. Susan will be honored at the MIWLA Conference luncheon to be held on November 8, 2013 from 11:30-12:50 at the Lansing Center in Lansing Michigan.

The Michigan World Language Association established the Barbara Ort Smith award in 1988 to honor Barbara’s life-long contributions to the teaching and learning of World Languages. Barbara served as the first Foreign Language Consultant in the State of Michigan.  Thus, this award was established in her honor.  This award is the most prestigious award a professional in the field of world languages in the State of Michigan can receive.  It is a life-long achievement award that rewards dedication to world language education and a strong commitment and service to professional language associations in our state.

Susan’s commitment to the world language professional and her dedication to the teaching of world languages is truly outstanding and MIWLA looks forward to honoring her at the conference.  I am sure you join us in congratulating Susan Formento Buffa as Michigan’s 2013 Barbara Ort-Smith recipient.

Sincerely,

Jackie Moase-Burke
